Summer 2011…

I’ve got the opportunity to visit Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara. It’s for work actually, but I got some time to explore a little bit of Labuan Bajo.

Labuan Bajo is a city at Flores Island, one of three major islands at East Nusa Tenggara. It is the launching point for trips to Komodo Island and Rinca Island, home to the famous Komodo dragons.

At first, I want to go to Komodo Island, but considering the limited time, I change my plan to Rinca Island which is nearest than Komodo Island. It takes about 2 hours from Labuan Bajo to Rinca Island, while a trip to Komodo Island takes about 4 hours.

I started the trip to Rinca island at 4 am, where I could see the sunrise from the sea…

After about 2 hours at the sea, finally arrived at Loh Buaya, the Rinca Island dock…

The view of Rinca island is similar to Savanna Desert at Africa…

The Komodo dragon also called as “Ancient Dragon”. They’re have strong sense of smell, they able to smell up to a distance of 5 km. It is quite dangerous for women who’s in their period to near a Komodo. Usually, the ranger at Rinca Island will warn the women tourist who’s in their period to notify the ranger and should always with the group.

Next time, I will further my trip to Komodo Island…
